At Faithful Harvest Learning Community, we're dedicated to providing a transformative educational experience rooted in Charlotte Mason’s timeless principles alongside current innovative approaches. Nestled amidst 5 acres of scenic countryside in Barrington IL, our microschool offers a unique environment where children can thrive academically, spiritually, and personally surrounded by nature.
At Faithful Harvest, we believe that education, is not only about academic growth, but also spiritual formation. By engaging in scripture memorization, Bible study, exploration of church history, and fostering meaningful discussions, we guide students on a journey of spiritual growth and discovery. Additionally, the rhythm of our days incorporates moments of quiet reflection and prayer, nurturing a deeper connection with God and man.
Faithful Harvest does not promote a particular denominational doctrine. If interested, see this brief video by the Charlotte Mason Institute to explore this topic further.
Living Books and Narration:
At Faithful Harvest, we embrace the Charlotte Mason approach to education, which emphasizes the use of "living books". “Living books” are generally books with a single passionate author that can engage students with rich, narrative-driven content. Through the power of storytelling and personal reflection, students learn to absorb knowledge deeply and express their understanding through the process of narration. Student assessments gauge the effectiveness of our teaching and seek out what living thoughts the child has developed and retained. This immersive learning experience fosters a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.
Small Class Size and Homelike Environment:
Starting with just one class of 1st-3rd grade meeting in the home, Faithful Harvest provides a small and intimate learning environment where students receive personalized attention and care. As the school grows, there are plans to build or purchase a barn to accommodate up to 9th grade. Faithful Harvest is committed to fostering a sense of community where everyone is known and supported, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for students, families, and staff alike.
Flexible Hours and Accommodations:
Our small size allows us to offer flexible hours for families and we believe flexibility is key to a thriving and supportive community. This flexibility eases schedules and allows families to prioritize education without sacrificing life's adventures.
Natural Playground:
Childhood is a time of wonder and exploration, and our outdoor space reflects that. Whether it is playful encounters with chickens, walks through the nature preserve, or gathering around the firepit, every day at Faithful Harvest is an opportunity for children to reconnect with the simplicity and beauty of nature.
Mixed Grade Classes:
Our mixed-grade classes promote collaboration and mentorship opportunities among students of different ages, fostering a supportive learning environment. As the school begins, there will be one class consisting of 1st-3rd graders. Over time, we will grow to accommodate classes for 4th-6th graders and 7th-9th graders.
At Faithful Harvest, we believe that education is a partnership between school and home. Parents can be as active as they want, with ample opportunity to contribute to the future of the school and their student's education. With full access to the Alveary curriculum, parents are empowered to connect home life with their school life as well as allowing for families to travel together while keeping up with coursework. Together, we're not just building a school—we're cultivating a community of learning that extends beyond the classroom.
We believe that education is more than just academics; it's about holistic growth. Inspired by the visionary educator Charlotte Mason, we embrace her philosophy that education is an atmosphere, a discipline, and a life. Our approach integrates academic rigor with spiritual formation, nurturing a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom.
